Students were able to watch a DE video on Veterans Day. While pausing throughout the video, rich discussion allowed the students to make valuable connections with history and the present.  A short, ten question quiz at the end of the video allowed for a time of checking students' understanding and comprehension.
Have a wonderful weekend!! We are looking forward to Mrs. Lynne Middleton being with us Monday for 4-H.

Thursday, November 7th, 2019

We reviewed pages 40-41 from the Gallopade book. We completed a map to use for a study guide and watched a brief DE video.

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

We reviewed p. 40 from yesterday and read aloud p. 42, highlighting key points.
Then, we had a friendly competition, answering the six questions at the bottom of p. 42 in the Gallopade book.  After discussing the correct answers, we previewed a listening comprehension guide for the four minute DE video segment about the geography of North Africa.  Students were asked to watch the video segment carefully and then insert any answer they could remember.  One class was able to review the segment and answer the questions-other classes did not have time and will do that tomorrow.
Begin studying all notes.

After a brief review, students completed the Byzantine Empire Test (25 Questions) on their own paper.  We also read through p. 40 and answered 1-3 and labeled the map inside the Gallopade book.

Monday, November 4, 2019

After a quick review, students were able to finish any of the Justinian law sheets, the Scarecrow Review sheet, or play a few rounds of the Byzantine Empire game with all the questions that will be covered on the test tomorrow.
Be sure to study over all your notes for tomorrow's quiz.
Progress reports are going home this Friday, so I am so thankful that students are using these opportunities to get any missing work completed.

Friday, November 1, 2019

We began by clarifying policies and procedures for the following in each class...
backpacks, lockers, dress code, and computer/gmail usage.
Students who had not finished the last two Justinian law sheets were able to finish, while those who did finish were given the Scarecrow Color Review Sheet, which is due on Tuesday the 5th after our test. By the end of the class period, every student received a Review Sheet.
Have a wonderful weekend!!!!

Thursday, October 31, 2019

We were able to review yesterday's initial comparison between Justinian rule and our Bill of Rights.  Students were then able to finish what they needed to do and complete today's comparison of Justinian Code and U.S.Laws. After completing the vocabulary review, both papers were turned in.
Study for the quiz that has been moved to Tuesday.

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

We began by discussing a sheet of seven extra credit options-deadline depends on when extra credit is needed.  We also viewed two brief segments on Justinian (cartoon oriented).  Then, I read aloud from a sheet so students could highlight the key points and begin working at completing the back by creating a code of laws.
Continue studying your notes.

Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Unfortunately, Mrs. Lynne Middleton was sick today, so we were able to view Flocabulary, a few DE video segments, and the Constantinople video for a great review.  Students were able to choose their groups and began working on a representation of Justinian Rule (puppet show, artwork, power point, etc.).
Tomorrow's class period will be devoted to working and possibly completing the chosen representation.

Continue studying your notes.

We were able to secure the Chromebooks for our use today, but unfortunately the Khan Academy issue was still a problem for some.  Most students were able to access it and examine the materials that I had made available. No worries, though!! Mrs. Coleman, our instructional coach will be on it soon-she does a wonderful job!!! I was able to conference with most all of the students about missing or absent work in an effort to keep everyone up to date.
The only homework is to study over the notes on Justinian for Friday's short quiz.

Friday, October 25, 2019

We reviewed all the vocabulary and key points.  Students completed the Weekly Quiz #2 (2nd 9 Wks.) and then signed into Newsela to read an article over the Byzantine Empire.  They were asked to read it on level 610, read it on another level, and then take the quiz on the Chromebook.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

Thursday, October 24, 2019

We reviewed all the eight vocabulary words. Then, we read, highlighted, and discussed page 39 and took copious notes from the board to finish completing the study sheet.  Only the vocabulary and the first 3 notes will be on this week's quiz. The rest of the study sheet will be covered on next week's quiz.
We also discussed the possible event for next Friday. Everyone who has SS work caught up and an excellent behavior record will be invited to go to the gymnatorium to see/hear a presentation on Africa from a special group from Lee University.  Make sure you are extremely well-behaved so you can enjoy this presentation.

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

We reviewed the second set of four vocabulary words with the large flashcards.  Then, we read, discussed, and highlighted pp.37-38.
Study for the Weekly Quiz on Friday.

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

We reviewed each of the first four vocabulary words in the list of eight.  Then, we read and discussed pages 35 and 36, highlighting key points. We completed questions 1-4 and 1-2 on page 36 as a group.
Begin studying for Friday's Quiz.

Monday, October 21, 2019

A new seating chart was introduced for each class.  After a brief DE video segment on the Byzantine Empire, students used the blue dictionaries provided to look up and define the eight vocabulary terms that will be featured on this week's Weekly Quiz on Friday.
Begin studying.
