Teacher Bio

I am currently in my seventeenth year of teaching at OMS. This is my eleventh year teaching seventh grade! Wow! Time has flown! I have taught both 6th and 8th grade as well, but I really dig my 7th graders. :-)

My philosophy of teaching
Unfortunately, it has been said, “Those who can do...do. Those who cannot do...teach.” HOGWASH!!! Personally, I believe that teaching is a calling and a service, not a job. It is often at times a mind-erasing service. However, there are permanent, life-changing moments made. Education and the power of learning are what no one can ever take away from you. I am so happy to be a part of the power of learning.

I believe that a teacher is the owner of one of the most amazing purposes on this earth. We are the forgers of the future. It takes a special person to be a teacher. Whoever said that teachers CAN'T DO, I say, it was your teachers that taught you to be so independent minded. It is the education that you have, that made you who you are. I much prefer the quote from Nelson Mandela, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." My own personal quote is "I am an intelligence gardener. If I work harder, I grow smarter." I made up this quote for my students because I believe in them. I believe that intelligence is something that can change, depending on how willing you are to work at it.
